About Trust

A charitable trust known as “SHRI BALABYRAWESHWARA EDUCATIONAL & CHARITABLE TRUST” was founded in the year 2010 by Arvind Raghavan, an Advocate by profession with other young philanthropists from Bangalore City which is capital of Karnataka State, India as trustees under a Deed of Trust dated 23/04/2010 which has been duly registered as Document No. BYP-4-00041-2010-11 in Book 4 and stored in CD No. BYPD48 with the Sub Registrar, Byatrayanapura, Bangalore. The registered office of the trust is “Apartment No.5, 3rd Floor, “Raashi Alaya” No.14, 2nd Cross, Shantivana, Sanjeevininagar, Bangalore - 560 092”.

Aim & Object Of The Trust

The main aim of this trust is to provide for basic amenities and facilities and upgrade, compliment and supplement those already provided for by the Government in primary, and high schools and junior colleges in rural areas of the State of Karnataka. The object of the trust is to ensure that children studying in government and other schools in rural areas who mostly come from families below the poverty line are provided with basic amenities and facilities and a decent educational environment.

Present Activities Of The Trust

As on date, the trust has been actively supporting about 7500 students studying in about 76 Government Schools, Junior Colleges and Govt. aided Institutions in the villages of Amruthi, Anunahalli, Balaghata, Bellale, Bookanakere, Chikkakoppalu, Chikkayarahalli, Chittanahalli, Eregowdanahalli, Eremanahalli, Halebeedu, Harohalli, Hoskote, Jakkanahalli, Kadaba, Kadala, Kadenahalli, Kajjikoppalu, Kuntibetta, Lakshmisagara, M. Shettahalli, Manikyanahalli, Mudalakoppalu, Narahalli, Narayanapura, Nyamanahalli, Pattasomanahalli, Ragimuddenahalli, Sanaba Badavane, Sanabadakoppalu, Shambunahalli Shambunahalli, Shankanahalli, Singarigowdanakoppalu, Sunkatannur, Sunkathanoor, Talasashana, Thimmanakoppalu, Thoppegowdanakoppalu, Yeregowdanahalli and the Government schools in Pandavapura and Melkote towns, Pandavapura Taluk, Mandya District, Karnataka State, India (about 2 ½ hours by road from Bangalore City). The trust has carried out the following activities till date:

  • Has provided note books, stationery, uniforms, smart boards, projectors, printers, sports equipment, cooking equipment like mixers and grinders, utensils and plates, spoons and tumblers for the children studying in the above schools.
  • Has contributed substantially to the construction of the Panchayat and Post Office at Manikyanahalli Village, Melkote Hobli, Pandavapura Taluk, Mandya District in the year 2012 which are fully functional as on date.
  • Has equipped the staff rooms in many schools with furniture required and has also provided for furniture required by tiny tots in government schools with nursery and pre nursery at the Melukote Government Higher Primary School and the Anganwadi schools at Sunkathanoor and Manikyanahalli at a cost of about Rs.150000/- in the year 2025.
  • Has constructed a modern toilet building for boys and girls and an office room at Na Bhadraiah Convent, Bellale and equipped the classrooms with smartboards, furniture and fans at a cost of about Rs.10,00,000/- between 2022-2023.
  • Has distributed cash awards to about 36 meritorious students, offered scholarship for higher studies to deserving students studying at Maniyanahalli Government Higher Primary School and Bellale High School and Junior College on every Independence Day.
  • Has also got installed water tanks, water storage and distribution facilities in three of these schools at Hoskote, Mudalakoppalu and Bellale Villages.
  • Has been organizing educational tours for about 300 students spread over four schools every year in the months of December- January.
  • Has constructed an open air cultural and activity center at Chikkayarahalli Govt. High School in the year 2019 at a cost of about Rs.10,00,000/- which will cater to the needs of about 200 students and can also be used for cultural programs and stage plays held regularly in villages.
  • Has completed tiling of the corridors at Melukote Government Higher Primary School in January 2023 at a cost of about Rs.60,000/-.
  • Has donated a full band set for the Jakkanahalli High School in January 2023 at a cost of about Rs.1,35,000/-.
  • Has donated an amount of about Rs. 50000/ - to Melukote Govt. Primary School for stating the LKG and UKG classes therein by providing for furniture and toys for the children enrolled therein.
  • Has donated an amount of Rs. 10,80,000/- to the Government Primary School at Sanabadakoppalu Village, Chinkurali Hobli, Pandavapura Taluk, Mandya District for the construction of a digital library and a stage for students which was inaugurated on 15th August 2024.
  • Has carried out plastering and repainting of the Govt. Higher Secondary School at Sanaba Badavane Village, the Government Primary School at Bellale Village and the office of the Block Educational Officer, Pandavapura Taluk during October 2024 by incurring an expenditure of about Rs.4,00,000/- on the same.
  • Has donated an amount of about Rs.1,35,000/- towards the purchase of 18 bicycles for senior students of Govt. Higher Secondary School at Sanaba Badavane, Pandavapura Taluk during April 2025.
  • Has till date donated and facilitated over 200 computers including desktops and laptops which have been installed across these schools. However, due to shortage of power (only six hours of single-phase power available in these villages), these computers are not capable of being put to use in an optimum manner. Therefore, the trust is in the process of providing at least two Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) units of adequate capacity for every school for the operation of computers initially and then for lighting and fans thereafter.

Facilities Required After Taking Into Considerations The Government Grants

  • Benches and desks with smart boards and ceiling fans in all classrooms.
  • Adequate lighting through the provision of tube lights and ceiling fans in all class rooms as the area has an average annual temperature of 32* C.
  • Books (atleast three note books of 200 pages each per student)
  • Stationery - 1 compass box with 2 pens, 2 pencils, 2 erasers and 1 sharpener for each student.
  • One school bag with an attachment for carrying a water bottle
  • A small library in every school with books contributed from donors.
  • One water purifier in every school to provide clean drinking water.
  • One motor , overhead tank and storage tank for every school for storage and supply of water.

NOTE: Water stored can also be used for cleaning of kitchen equipments, plates and spoons which also needs to be provided for children

  • UPS equipment of adequate capacity to ensure that the computers and installed in the schools and colleges are put to optimum use in spite of inadequate power supply.
  • At least four computers with an UPS of adequate capacity to support software education.
  • One independent faculty (privately hired by the trust) dedicated to provide computer education for children. It is to be noted that for the other subjects, government teachers have been employed.
  • One Projector for each school which adds immense value for teaching facilities.

These needs have been identified after several visits made to these schools by the Author and Founder of the Trust Mr. Arvind Raghavan and the other trustees. He and the other trustees have till date, out of their own funds and the funds available in the trust thanks to donations by several corporates and individuals provided for books, stationery, kitchen utensils, furniture, ceiling fans, smart boards, projectors and sports equipment in these schools.

The Role Of The Trust During The Covid 19 Pandemic

Considering the goodwill earned by the trust over the years especially in Pandavapura Taluk and a very effective network with persons residing there who work actively with the trust including the Govt Officials, our trust has donated to the Govt Hospital at Pandavapura. A total of 10 ICU beds with side tables, 6 fully imported oxygen concentrators of ten litre capacity each ideal for hospital use, 20 PPE Kits and 20 oximeters have been donated to the Government Hospital at Pandavapura totalling to about Rs.985000/- on 09/06/2021.

The hospital has a set of well qualified doctors and nursing care to make maximum use of this equipment. It has been a boon for rural people who have suffered as much on account of Covid 19.

Income Tax Registration & Section 80G Exemption

It is significant to note that the trust has received its registration certificate under Section 12AA of the Income Tax Act, 1961 and has been entered at No. DIT(E)BLR/12AA/S-2206/AAJTS3643J/ITO(E)-3/Vol 2010-11 in the register of trusts/institutions of the Income Tax Department.

Further, recognition under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961 was applied for and has been approved by the Income tax Department vide order of the Director of Income Tax (Exemptions) – 3, Bangalore dated 27/4/2011.The 80G exemption issued to the trust will enable donors to claim 50% deduction from their income to the extent of the amounts donated to the trust.

Permission To Conduct CSR Activites}

The trust has been registered and accorded permission for undertaking CSR activities vide Certificate dated: 29/08/2024 bearing Registration No.CSR00077788 issued by the Registrar of Companies, ROC-Delhi, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India.

The Purpose Of This Mail

This mail is being with an objective to broadly highlight the activities and objects of the trust and to help the trust to achieve its goal of providing basic amenities and facilities for education in government schools, which will go a long way in educating children in rural areas (almost all of whom are below the poverty line). An earnest appeal is made to you to contribute either directly or through friends and well-wishers to this noble cause.
